H-Town Blogs Meetup
Greetings, y’all.
It’s been a while since there’s been a come-one-come-all Htowblogs meetup. I’ve held a few of my own and Houston Metrobloggers have held a few, but I think it’s time to get the ball rolling as the mercury stops flirting and pawing at the 100 mark.
Onion Street Cafe and Kaveh Kanes are regular ports of call for Htownblogs while I’ve been suggesting such spots as Kennealy’s, Downtown Cabo’s, Stag’s Head, and Goode Company Armadillo for my own gatherings. However, since this site is your sire in a way, I thought I’d open things up to your suggestions for location as well as date and time (weekday evening, weekend afternoon, etc.)
The comments are open, operators are standing by, and please pass the word around that Htownblogs is approaching the stage of being broom-clean and ready to pull the plastic wrapping off.

Houston Blogger Meetup
Now that I’ve got authorship power at H-town Blogs, I’ll be shifting Houston Blogger Meetups from here to over there. I guess this makes it a revival of a revival of sorts, laying the foundations for another failed series of…

I’m open for anywhere, but Kennealy’s (mmm, pizza) or Stag’s Head would be great. El Pueblito might be fun, too. And what about Alabama Ice House while the weather is still good?
I hate dealing with the whole downtown hoo-hah, but if downtown, why not La Carafe? It’s a wee bit removed from the fray.

Sounds good. Two things, though…
Please, no tiny little cramped spaces like La Carafe. It’s OK for the occasional tete a tete, but not for a large gathering. Big tables and room to move about mean that people can sit & chat with a larger group. At the Dallas blogfest earlier in the year, we had a few cases of latecomers getting stuck at ’satellite’ tables and missing out on the fun.
Second, delay the start til a bit later in the evening, if it’s on a weekday. Not everyone gets off at 5 and has an easy train ride into downtown.
Ice houses are kinda light on Wifi, but otherwise they seem to fit the bill OK.

Well, like the sub-title to my blog says, I’m just a professional geek that’s been stranded here in Houston, so I have no idea where anything is or how big it is. Especially if it’s “cool”. So, for me, all that matters is that I can get my big, fat butt there and in a chair. Oh, and food would be nice, too.
Watching with dreadful fascination where y’all decide to go and when.

I will spread the word among the Metrobloggers and Houston Podcasters… let’s set it up.

Have we narrowed it down to a weekday or weekend event? I’m good most days except Thursday. I agree we need a bigger place than La Carafe though. I’ll put a vote in for Kennealy’s. I don’t think I’ve been there yet…

I would pick a weekend afternoon, starting between 2-3pm or a Wednesday evening at 7pm. Somewhere centrally located, in or near downtown, not too hard to find, with lots of room and good food. Lots of room is key, food is second. Somewhere kid-friendly on the weekends in case some of us have teenage (gasp! Did I just call him that?) kids that would be tagging along.
Yeah! A blog gathering! Wheeee!!!

We need to get this finalized! We are long overdue for a get-together! It seems that Keneally’s won out but how about when??

Please let me know when you pick a date, I’ll check back. BTW, tonight Houston Metblogs is having a we survived Rita party at Spanish Flowers. I can’t go though, Evita here I come!!!

Looks like the Metblogs thing for tonight is cancelled, so nix that for now.
And don’t forget, I invite like a million bloggers out two or three nights a week, so if I can get authorship here, I can start throwing my little get togethers into the mix.
